How Kindred works
Most dating apps are built to keep you swiping. Kindred is built to help you actually meet someone.
The problem with most dating apps
Traditional dating apps create wildly unequal experiences. Men outnumber women 3:1 or more, which means most men rarely match while most women are overwhelmed. Nobody wins — the men are frustrated, the women are burned out, and the app keeps both groups addicted to the scroll.
Gender balance — enforced, not hoped for
Kindred limits how many members of each gender can be active at once, maintaining a ratio close to 50/50 between men and women, with space reserved for non-binary members. When the ratio is off, new sign-ups are queued rather than let straight in.
The queue — what it means
If you sign up and the ratio is currently skewed, you'll be placed in a queue. You can still complete your profile and explore the app — you just won't appear in other people's discovery feeds until a slot opens. As the community grows, more slots open automatically. There's no way to pay to skip the queue.
Likes and the free experience
Every member gets 5 likes per day for free. That's enough to be genuinely active. After your first match — and once you've had a conversation — the free allowance drops to 1 like per day. Token packs let you go up to 20 likes per day if you want to move faster.

What we don't do
No swipe mechanics designed to create compulsion loops. No "super likes" or boosts. No showing you people who already passed on you to trigger anxiety. No endless scroll. No ads. No selling your data.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the gender breakdown shown publicly?
Transparency. You can see exactly what the community looks like before you sign up. We don't hide the ratio or pretend the problem doesn't exist.
Can I game the system by changing my gender?
Your gender is set during sign-up and can be changed in settings. However, the bucket you're placed in for ratio purposes is set at registration — changing your display gender later doesn't move you between buckets. If you misrepresent your gender to jump a queue, your account will be suspended.
What happens when the community grows?
Queue wait times get shorter. The ratio enforcement gets more precise. More people in the pool means better matches for everyone.
How much do tokens cost?
CHF 10 for 50 tokens, CHF 20 for 125 tokens, CHF 30 for 200 tokens. One token = one like. Token packs let you use up to 20 likes per day.
What happens to my tokens if I delete my account?
Tokens are non-refundable and are lost on deletion. We'll add a warning before account deletion to make this clear.
Is messaging free?
Yes. Messaging is always free for matched users. Tokens are only used for likes.
